I just came across this. The story is about a young woman who recently graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She caught the swine flu but had no health insurance so she put off seeing a doctor. She died.

Dawn,
ReplyDeleteI am happy that you found this article. As soon as I saw your post I read it right away. This is something that really hits home for me. Considering I do not have health coverage, I would have been in the same boat as this young woman. It is crazy to think that the plain old flu that we all think about can turn into something so tragic just because you don't have insurance to go to the doctor.
I agree--it is tragic. I found this from factcheck.org. You might find it of interest too. It's a research study that was conducted by some researchers with the Harvard Medical School regarding the number of people who are uninsured who die each year for lack of health insurance.
